A year has passed since the said tragedy, the police are still investigating, however, currently available information suggests that Rusiņš is dead. The police chief did not specify the possible reasons or circumstances of Rusiņš’s death, only stating that there is reason to believe that Rusiņš is no longer among the living.
The police continue to check any signals about what happened, however, law enforcement officers are more inclined to think that Rusina “came to a bad end”.
However, the police do not currently plan to stop the search – “if a person is alive, he will be found sooner or later”, said the police chief.
Ruks emphasized that it is also important in this case that systemic deficiencies have been identified during the process, which will be improved
It has already been reported that on April 16, 2023, a woman born in 1983 was killed in Jēkabpils region in front of her child and mother. The murder was committed by her ex-husband Rusiņš, who threatened and harassed the woman for months, this was regularly reported to the police, but the woman was not protected. Rusin had 19 criminal proceedings, 18 of which were for failure to comply with a decision on protection against violence.
The police did not manage to arrest Rusinu after the murder, but at the same time it is not ruled out that he committed suicide.
As a result of the inspection, the General Prosecutor’s Office has also started two criminal proceedings, including for the criminal offenses allegedly committed by Rusiš – stalking and threats to commit murder and inflict serious bodily harm – against the victim in the parking lot of the “Selija” shopping center. In the mentioned criminal proceedings, the investigation is carried out by the State Police.
