At the end of Foreign Minister Yair Lapid’s political visit to Slovakia, he went to the tomb of the late Rabbi Moshe Sofer in Bratislava, Slovakia.

The undersigned Sofer, who was one of the great arbitrators and opponents of secularization and reform, appointed many sages, including Rabbi Akiva Eiger and others.

“Contrary to the misinterpretation of his famous saying, ‘New is forbidden from the Torah,’ the undersigned Sofer studied mathematics, history and astronomy,” Yair Lapid said of the visit. “He was a great rabbi who encouraged his students to study science alongside Torah study – because he believed that Torah, education and work are things that go together.”

Lapid mentioned the special attitude of the undersigned scribe to the Land of Israel, as the spiritual source of the Jewish people and added: In order to work on the land of the Land of Israel, you need to learn and know and get to know the world. “

“The undersigned Sofer was a man who knew the world, and the world knew him and his wisdom. The Jews really saved his grave from the Nazis with their last forces. Beside me stood the heads of the Jewish community and the Foreign Minister of Slovakia,” Lapid concluded.
