The Government must “invest and improve” cyber security, but end the “illusion” that the country will be “immune from incidents”

Still during the hearing in parliament, in the Committee for Constitutional Affairs, Rights, Freedoms and Guarantees, the Minister of Youth and Modernization clarifies that AMA services are still to be replaced, although the work is “being done at a good pace”. Currently, there are “more than 400 services and 20 portals available”.

In response to the deputy Patrícia Gilvaz, from the Liberal Initiative (IL), Margarida Balseiro Lopes clarifies that there was redundancy in some services, such as electronic prescriptions or digital signatures. “The prescriptions were not banned: the electronic prescription happened because there was indeed a disruption to the service. But there was redundancy”, which guarantees that there was coordination with the Ministry of Health on this issue.

He also says that digital signature was redundant. “Currently, it is not yet possible to sign with the Mobile Digital Key (CMD), we hope it will be possible next Monday. This does not mean that the digital signature through the Citizen Card was not available — as it was”, although he recognizes that it was not “ideal”.

“We know that there are always opportunities for improvement”, admits Balseiro Lopes. “We have to keep improving.”

Speaking to the IL representative, he asks that there be no illusions that the country’s digital systems could be protected from incidents. “Don’t think that, in terms of future attacks, we will be protected and that there is no solution – because there is not.”

“Incidents have already occurred at some of the largest companies in the world with brutal investments in this area”, without naming companies. “We must try to make investments and improve to mitigate the vulnerabilities that may exist, but without having the misconception that we will be immune from any incident that may occur.”
