On March 22, a terrorist act took place in the “Crocus City Hall” concert complex of the Moscow region. According to the latest information, the number of people killed in the incident is 137. It is reported that around 180 people were injured.

It was announced that four citizens of Tajikistan were arrested in connection with this incident.

Against the background of all this, the Russian State Duma proposes to limit the entry of migrants into the country. In the Russian media, there are calls to review the migrant policy.

According to the official bodies of Russia, 18 million labor migrants from neighboring countries are currently officially registered in this country. According to the migration authorities, 100 thousand people left Azerbaijan to work in Russia in 2023. This is about 15 percent less than in previous years.

According to some observers, migrants working illegally in Russia, including those from Azerbaijan, may face serious problems. They say that after the terrorist attack in Moscow in 1999, there were certain difficulties related to migrants.

“Our relations with Russia are a strategic partnership…”

Member of the international relations and inter-parliamentary relations committee of the Milli Majlis Elman Nasirov also told “Turan” that proposals are being made in Russia to take strict measures regarding migrants coming to this country: “Migrants coming to Russia are required to know the Russian language, because some of the participants in this terrorist act do not know the Russian language. In such a case, questions such as “how did he live and work in Russia” arise.

The deputy noted that the deportation of migrants in Russia is one of the issues already discussed: “It is not an exception that there should be a review of the policy regarding migrants.”

As for the issue of migrants from Azerbaijan, E. Nasirov stressed that he does not want to believe that there are any disturbing moments here: “Because our relations with Russia have risen to the level of strategic partnership and alliance. “Azerbaijani migrants work there, mainly in the field of trade, and there have been no serious concerns about them.”

“Against people who work and live illegally, maybe…”

Political commentator Zaradusht Alizadeh and in his statement to Radio Liberty on the subject, he assumed that the treatment of migrants with legal status will be within the framework of the law: “People who do not comply with the law, who work and live in illegal ways, may be treated harshly and the question of their deportation will be raised.”

According to the expert, if this happens, it will not be directed against Azerbaijan, but will only serve the issue of Russia’s state security: “At the same time, it will apply not only to Azerbaijanis, but to all illegal migrants.”

But according to Z. Alizadeh, if migrants from Azerbaijan are deported from Russia, there will be no one to provide them with jobs in Azerbaijan: “There are many unemployed people in Azerbaijan. Those people make a living somehow, drive a taxi, work in daily jobs. If their number increases by 200-300 thousand, nothing will change. From the point of view that there will be no one to take care of them.”
