Telegram is launching a monthly paid subscription that users can purchase using the app’s digital currency, Stars, to gain access to additional content from creators.
Creators can now create invite links, which allow users to join a channel in exchange for monthly payments in the form of Stars.
The idea behind the feature is to allow creators to charge for additional, or early access to content in a similar way to Patreon.
Content creators can set prices for their content, and can convert Stars into Toncoin cryptocurrency rewards or subsidized advertising.
Telegram takes a commission from transactions involving Stars, but the company has not detailed how much.
Telegram also launched Star Reactions, which allows users to directly support their favorite content creators.
Star Reactions are similar to YouTube’s “Super Thanks” feature and the Tips X feature.
