US politician Hillary Clinton shared a news release on Twitter that speculated that the suspect believed to have carried out the attack may be linked to Republicans.

But the post was noticed to be missing after a few hours.

By then, the record had been liked 110,000 times, the Semafor news site noted.

Questions sent to AFP on Twitter about whether Musk had removed the post have yet to be answered.
