JD Vance is going into the US election campaign as Donald Trump’s vice president. He will be supported by his wife Usha. What is known about the possible Second Lady?
Will Donald Trump win or will Joe Biden remain President of the USA? That will become clear after November 5, 2024. James David “JD” Vance is running as the Republican vice-presidential candidate and thus Trump’s number two. If he wins, his wife Usha would be Second Lady – she was a Democrat before her marriage.
On Monday, July 15, the Republican convention in Milwaukee decided that Vance would be Trump’s vice president. This was the first time his wife came into the public eye. Usha Vance, whose birth name was Chilukuri, has Indian roots and grew up in San Diego, California. The current legal representative met and fell in love with her husband while studying law at the elite US university Yale, as the US television channel “CNN” reports. She graduated with summa cum laude.
Their wedding took place in 2014 in Kentucky in an interfaith ceremony. JD Vance is Catholic and his wife is Hindu. Together they have three children named Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel and live in Cincinnati, Ohio. If the Republicans win the election, the Vances would be the Second Family and would thus be allowed to move into the Naval Observatory in the US capital Washington, DC, as is traditional.
Before her marriage to Vance, the Republican was registered as a Democrat, as the New York Times reports. Now she seems to be fully behind her husband’s politics. She apparently gave up her job at the renowned law firm Munger, Tolles & Olson.
“Usha informed us that she has decided to leave the firm. […] Usha was an outstanding lawyer and colleague, and we thank her for her years of service and wish her the best in her future career,” CNN quoted a statement from her former employer. Usha Vance previously worked at the Supreme Court.
