On May 24, the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) announced the call to recruit Mexican medical specialists, seeking to fill the 13,756 vacancies throughout the country. These positions in medical specialties are permanent and correspond to 57% of the national demand.

Among the medical specialties with the greatest demand within the institutions, the following stand out:

Internal medicine doctors (1,753 places). Emergency physicians (1,728). Gynecology and obstetrics (1,572). Pediatrics (1,527 places). Anesthesiology (1,317 places).

The purpose of this call is to reduce the current backlog of profiles in all institutions in the national territory

According to the information available on the page of the call, “the main purpose of the call is to achieve the recruitment of a greater number of specialist medical personnel, to reduce the current backlog of these profiles in all Health Institutions in the national territory ”.

According to official information, the five states with the highest number of vacancies are:

Veracruz (1,641 vacancies). Mexico City (1,643). Michoacan (781). Chiapas (706 vacancies). Puebla (586).

In the case of Veracruz, the greatest demand for specialists is from Gynecology and Obstetrics (with 229 vacancies); Internal Medicine (with 214); Pediatrics (212); General Surgery; Anesthesiology and Medical Surgical Emergencies.

On the other hand, in Mexico City, the places or medical specialties with the largest space are those of anesthesiology (182); medical-surgical emergencies (156); internal medicine (148) and pediatrics (133). In Chiapas, for example, of the 706 vacancies available, 142 correspond to pediatrics and 124 to gynecology and obstetrics. For its part, in Michoacán, there are 141 spaces for emergency medical specialists, 124 for internists and 105 for obstetrician-gynecologists.

On the other hand, the entities with the lowest demand are: Tlaxcala (9), Colima (39), Baja California Sur (111) and Tabasco (134). What can be highlighted is that most states have more than 100 places available in the different branches of specialization.
