You should know that the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) grants couples married by civil law a “marriage support”, also called “Wedding Expenses”.

What is IMSS marriage support?
This support is equivalent to 30 days of general minimum wagecoming from the social quota that contributes the Federal Government to the individual account, which can be withdrawn by a worker insured by the IMSS through the Afore.
You must keep in mind that you can only apply for this support once, so if you get divorced and remarry, you cannot make a new application for support even if you meet all the requirements.
Furthermore, according to the IMSS, the deadline for a solution is 15 business days. You should also know that the support is part of the partial withdrawals, and does not reduce the weeks of contributions, since the support increases with the individual account.
What are the requirements to obtain support?
- Weeks of contributions: The IMSS requests that the applicant have a minimum of 150 weeks contributing to retirement insurance.
- Validity: You must be current as insured, but in case of having ceased to belong to the Mandatory Regimeyou can request support as long as the marriage was contracted within the 90 business days counted from the date of discharge.
- Not having previously requested support.
- Generate Worker Identification File: You must have this updated file containing your identification data as a worker, official identification, proof of address and a Biometric Enrollment. The document is issued by the Afore to which you are affiliated.
- Certified copy of the marriage certificateissued by one of the Civil Registry offices or courts.
- That the civil marriage was celebrated after the June 30, 1997.

If the person you are marrying is not registered as one of your beneficiaries, you should secure it as soon as possible.
However, if you already had a spouse registered previously, but that is not the person you are going to marry, you must prove the dissolution of the marriage bond (whether due to divorce, death, disappearance, etc.).
