At the wheel you need all five senses. And the view, even more so. In these dates in which the displacements are triggered by the summer vacations, the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) launches a reminder of the most common offenses that many drivers are unaware of. In fact, one of the most used elements when driving can be a reason for a sanction, such as the Sunglasses.

Yes. For wearing a certain type of glasses you can also be fined. Because although it may not seem like it, there are some that make driving difficult and, therefore, increase the risk of causing an accident.

They are, for example, glasses that have a level 4 sunscreen, which absorb the 92% ultraviolet rays.

This type are used for skiing or snow sports in general, since in a road environment they make vision very difficult, unlike in the snow where the exposure and reflection of light is much more powerful. Although few people think of putting on ski goggles to drive, there have been several cases of people who already get into the car equipped for skiing, with the respective lenses included.

This would be the clearest case of glasses prohibited by the DGT. On the contrary, the body has published a series of tips to avoid having to resort to such powerful lenses when driving and that are optimal for traveling by car.

The most important is to use polarized glasses, if possible with level 3 sunscreen, with lenses with soft colors, whether greenish, brown or gray. In case of having the sun in your face, the DGT suggests keeping the trajectory of the vehicle and slowing down slightly and in no case slam on the brakes or look away. In relation to this situation, it is also convenient to stop and wait for the sun to change direction if you are going to spend many hours behind the wheel with the sun in your face. Keeping your windows clean will also help prevent unwanted reflections on the road and help you see everything around you.

With the summer operation, thousands of trips are expected, especially now that it will be the first summer in two years without any type of restriction due to the coronavirus. With this, it is in this period when more traffic accidents occur. In 2021, there were 921 fatal accidents on the roads of Spain, in which 1,004 people died and another 3,728 were injured.
