These are the symptoms of the Omicron variant that affect people already vaccinated with Covid

by time news

Being vaccinated does not imply being free from the coronavirus. Because they were not conceived to prevent contagion, but rather so that the effects of the virus are much less adverse and even go unnoticed. But Covid-19 has been circulating among the population for more than two years, which has caused its mutation and the birth of new variants.

In December 2021, Omicron was detected. This strain has been, without a doubt, the one that has caused the most havoc in the population in terms of infections and accumulated incidence.

After overcoming the peak of Ómicron, the world hoped to definitively overcome the pandemic. And so it has been in much of the world: the mobility restrictions they have been almost completely abolished, with the exception of certain countries, and the mandatory nature of protective elements such as the mask has been reduced to a few spaces.

But the reality is that Covid is still present and infections continue. And good fault of this is the variants of Omicron BA.4 and BA.5.

Research is focused on these strains to produce new effective vaccines and understand their behavior in vaccinated people, such as one carried out in Norway and published in the specialized journal Eurosurveillance.

In this study, 111 people who were at a party that led to an Omicron outbreak were analyzed. 89% of these participants had received two doses of a mRNA vaccine and none had received a booster dose.

One of the conclusions the report leads to is that patients experienced eight common symptoms.

  • Persistent cough

  • Runny nose

  • Fatigue

  • muscle fatigue

  • Headache

  • Throat pain

  • Fever

  • sneezing

The study concludes that thanks to the effectiveness of the vaccines, it has helped to reduce the effects of the virus. So much so that they can pass as a common cold and disappear in just a few days.

The Ministry of Health has recorded in its latest report 19,417 new cases of coronavirusof which 11,422 have occurred in people over 60 years of age, which brings the total number of infections in Spain to 13,245,996 since the start of the pandemic.
