The movie writers involved in MOVIE WALKER PRESS will introduce three movies that you should watch this weekend (using their own opinion and bias)!

“This Week’s ☆☆☆” is a serial project in which MOVIE WALKER PRESS staff introduces three video works that they want you to see right now (in their own opinion and bias). This week, we are introducing the latest work in the “Monster Verse” series, which is a crossover between the Hollywood version of the “Godzilla” series and “King Kong: Skull Island” (17), and the 27th movie version of the currently huge hit “Detective Conan”. Nora Fingscheidt’s feature-length debut, which depicts a troubled girl with strong direction, is the 3 films you want to see during Golden Week.

A ferocious battle in which new species jump out… “Godzilla x Kong: A New Empire” (now in theaters)

Following “Godzilla vs. Kong” (21), in this latest Monster Verse movie, Godzilla and King Kong collide once again! It’s interesting because it develops into a joint struggle. The panic caused by the monster battle on the ground also affects the struggle for supremacy in the underground world where Kong lives. In addition to the two major monsters, the ferocious battle featuring new species is irresistible to monster movie fans.

The production by Adam Wingard, who was the director of the previous film, is so up-tempo that it brings to mind “Transformers” (2007), and he builds an overwhelming spectacle by freely destroying Rome and other major cities around the world. The visuals of the underground world full of nature and mystery are also impressive. Wingard is said to be thinking of a sequel, but it’s an entertaining blockbuster that we’ll be looking forward to. You’ll want to watch it over and over again to check for hints… “Detective Conan: The Million Dollar Star” (currently in theaters)

The 27th film in the history of the movie series got off to the best rocket start. This time, an epic treasure battle will take place in Hakodate, Hokkaido, a popular tourist spot, for the sword associated with Toshizo Hijikata of the Shinsengumi. Full-fledged mysteries linked to Hijikata’s era, flashy action, romantic comedy, and plenty of other highlights to please fans!

The three main characters are Conan (voice: Minami Takayama), a high school detective from the west, Heiji Hattori (voice: Ryo Horikawa), and Kaito Kid (voice: Kappei Yamaguchi). Rather than the detective and the phantom thief facing off against each other, I’m glad to see an exciting development in which the detective and the phantom thief pursue the mystery from their respective positions, working together on a joint investigation. The feature of this film is that you can strongly feel Kid’s true side as the always cool high school student Kaito Kuroba, and the scenes where Kid’s deep feelings for Inspector Nakamori, who is Kid’s special investigator, come out in particular are heart-warming. . Pay attention to the fate of Heiji and his childhood friend Kazuha (voiced by Yuko Miyamura), who love each other but are unable to get along. Hakodate, which is full of beautiful spots, is perfect for Heiji, a man who has been searching for a spectacular view worthy of confessing his feelings. It’s strange to see Ran (voiced by Wakana Yamazaki), who was consulted by Heiji about her confession, eagerly supporting him. There are many characters and a variety of intertwined stories, so you’ll want to watch it multiple times to check for hints. And when the shocking new facts are revealed at the very end…! I can’t help but be already curious about the next work. (Movie writer Keiko Ishizuka)

“System Crusher” (now in theaters) captures and shakes the hearts of viewers.

A mother who has another young child leaves an emotionally unstable 9-year-old girl, Benny, in a facility because she can’t handle it anymore. Benny, who wants to live with her mom, amplifies his anger, causes problems, and moves from facility to facility. It’s just a vicious cycle. Is there a way to break out of this negative loop?Although it leaves the viewer at a loss, for some reason this film does not have a sense of pathos. This is probably due to the strength of individuality and bursting energy of 9-year-old Benny, who does not fit into the mold. The power that captivates her eyes fills her whole body until the very end. There are moments when she is fed up with Benny, and moments when she wants to blame her mother. However, without condemning anyone, the camera presents the audience squarely with Benny’s facial expressions, words, actions, impulses, and what they provoke while dressed in her pink clothes.

We hold our breath as we watch Benny “wandering in search of love,” and as we see various adults earnestly trying to get involved, we place our hopes in “this time,” but as we see him fail and feel lost, our hearts are moved. Both of us are at a loss. I’ll never forget the final scene, which is both surprising and at the same time gives me a sense of unscrupulous freedom. With this theme, Nora Fingscheidt, who is making her unexpected feature debut with this film, grabs the hearts of viewers and shakes them. It won two awards at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival, including the Silver Bear Award, as well as numerous other awards. Helena Zengel, who played Benny, is truly a great little actress!
