Vladimir Putin continues to increase the pressure on his European customers by trying to force them to pay in rubles. Faced with the latter’s refusal, the risk of seeing Europe deprived of Russian gas is increasing day by day. Germany and Austria have activated their emergency plan. France is putting the finishing touches to its own, which should appear in the form of a decree in the coming days. To develop it, the public authorities took out of their drawers an old draft text framing targeted and emergency cuts in the event of a lack of gas – called “load shedding”. Individuals are not affected. The draft decree only targets some 5,000 industrial sites and large consumers. “It’s a last resort”, we say to the Ministry of Ecological Transition. At the same time, the prefects must draw up a list of sites that cannot be interrupted, such as hospitals and certain industrial sites.
