The changes range from streamlining appointment scheduling to reducing fees.
One of the most important new features will be the new appointment scheduling module. This system, supported by cutting-edge technology, will be integrated with the National Registry’s ‘ANI’ (National Identification Archive), allowing for faster and safer identification of users. In addition, the system will have intuitive screens and a double authentication factor to guarantee security during the process.
The new software will also offer users the ability to schedule appointments with greater flexibility.showing real-time availability and allowing the system to be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
100% online passport renewal
Another notable improvement is the possibility for citizens who have obtained their passport since 2017 to renew it completely online. The process will allow updating the photo and making the payment virtually. Once approved, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will notify the user by email to pick up their document at the selected location.

Exemptions from passport fees
Exemptions will apply to some Colombians, in line with the provisions of Article 8 of Law 1212 of 2008. People who belong to levels 1 and 2 of SISBEN, adults over 62 years of age, people with disabilities, and those who must leave the country for health, work or education reasons, will be exempt from paying the passport.. Sports, cultural and scientific delegations are also included. Interested parties must present documentation such as medical certificates, ICBF adoption documents, citizenship cards, study certificates, among others.
Reduction in passport costs
Thanks to an agreement with the Portuguese Government, the cost of an ordinary passport in Colombia will be reduced. At the Foreign Ministry offices in Bogotá, the fee will drop from $207,000 to $180,000. Abroad, the cost will be 60 euros in Cuba and Europe, and 82 dollars in the rest of the world.
Other service improvements
The Foreign Ministry offices in the North and Center of Bogotá will extend their opening hours until 4:00 p.m., with the possibility of extending them until 5:00 p.m. In addition, five new formalization modules will be installed that will allow the issuance of between 20 and 30 additional passports per day at each office.
Mobile visits will also continue to facilitate access to the service in different regions of the country, and efforts are being coordinated with the Mayor’s Office of Bogotá to enable issuance points in the SUPERCADEs of Suba, Engativá, Bosa, Las Américas and Fontibón. Finally, ‘Biomig’ registration points will be installed in passport offices with the support of Migración Colombia to speed up immigration processes.
