“Liam James Payne, composer and guitarist (…), died today after falling from the third floor of a hotel in (the neighborhood of) Palermo,” the Argentine police wrote in a statement, detailing that a call made to the emergency number 911 “reported an aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.”
The local press broadcast an audio attributed to that contact with 911 by the manager of the Casa Sur hotel, in which he is heard saying: “We have a guest who is over the top with drugs and is breaking up the entire room so we need him to come (…) . “He has a balcony and we are afraid that he will do something that puts his life at risk.”
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Security of Buenos Aires issued another statement in which he reported that, “when the officers arrived, the manager stated that he felt a loud noise in the interior rear lung of the hotel” and they confirmed “the death of a man who had had thrown from the balcony of his room.”
Payne had “very serious injuries incompatible with life as a result of his fall (…). There was no possibility of resuscitation,” the head of the Emergency Medical Care System (SAME), Alberto Crescenti, told the Argentine channel TN.
He reported that the 911 call was received at 5:04 p.m. local time and that, seven minutes later, a team arrived “to verify the death of this man.”
The fall, the reasons for which are unclear, occurred from a height “of around 13 or 14 meters,” he added. “Apparently he had a skull base fracture.”
Liam Payne was in Buenos Aires because he attended a concert by his former One Direction bandmate, Niall Horan, who is promoting his album ‘The Show’ on his tour of South America.
Payne was seen by several fans enjoying his friend’s concert at the Movistar Arena.
