The metro of Thessaloniki will be delivered to the citizens on November 30, 2024, announced Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

“After many inaugurations that were not really inaugurations, banners, presentations, challenges, I am pleased to announce that the Thessaloniki metro will be delivered – it will not be inaugurated – to the citizens of the city on November 30, 2024, in 95 days from today,” the Prime Minister emphasized while speaking in Thessaloniki at an event titled: “National Strategy for Regional Development / Presentation of Digital Platform erga.gov.gr.”

“Perhaps the most impressive metro station in the world”

He also pointed out that the Venizelos station will perhaps be the most impressive metro station in the world.

“We are talking about a museum within a station, having fully protected the cultural wealth of the country, in a way that creates a global know-how,” Mr. Mitsotakis noted.

“Our intention is for the FlyOver to be ready by Spring 2027”

Regarding the Flyover road axis, he emphasized that the goal is for it to be delivered in Spring 2027, before the parliamentary elections. “We will work to ensure that this project becomes a reality,” he noted.

Mr. Mitsotakis made a special reference to health issues and noted that “Thessaloniki will have the most modern cancer hospital and the most modern pediatric hospital within the next four years.”

“Thessaloniki is changing. It is changing at a very fast pace. No government has implemented more projects for Thessaloniki than this government. And this is something that I believe the citizens of Thessaloniki are beginning to realize,” the Prime Minister pointed out.

“I completely understand the skepticism and hesitation towards commitments that the citizens of Thessaloniki have heard many times; however, the reality has always been different. Here I think we have moved away from the practices of the past, we have proven that what we say we can implement within specific timelines,” he also said.

Mr. Mitsotakis spoke about the importance of regional convergence achieved through the national strategy for regional development and emphasized that with the Digital Platform erga.gov.gr, through which anyone can monitor the progress of projects and consultations, accountability, prioritization, and effectiveness are ensured.
