The deputies of the Legislative Assembly reformed, with 54 votes, the National Budget Law 2023 to incorporate funds that will be directed to the Planning Authority of the Historic Center of San Salvador (APLAN).

According to what was stated in plenary session number 117, said institution, attached to the Ministry of Tourism (MITUR), will need an amount of $650,000 to cover the fiscal year of this year.

APLAN was created by decree 707, approved on March 30, under the Law for the Creation of the Planning Authority of the Historic Center of San Salvador. In addition, it will be responsible for qualifying, approving and supervising projects and works for the rehabilitation, restoration, maintenance and economic-social and urban development of that territory.

Among the objectives of APLAN are to continue with the reorganization and revitalization of said area, as well as to protect, preserve and regulate the delimited area of ​​the historic center, declaring it a cultural, tourist and development zone for the promotion of activities and investments in the capital.

At the same time, it will coordinate the actions for compliance with the law with the different institutions involved for the improvement of said area.

The institution will be made up of a board of directors, which will be the highest authority and will be made up of a director appointed by the Ministry of Tourism, a director by the Ministry of Culture and a director by the mayor’s office of San Salvador; in addition to an Executive President, who will be appointed by the President of the Republic and there will also be units or operational instances.
