The feasibility study for a new bridge near Gyurgevo and Ruse has been approved. This was announced by European Transport Commissioner Adina Valyan to Agerpress in Brussels. The project was submitted by Romania under military mobility funds at the beginning of December last year and was presented as a road bridge with the possibility of a railway.

Today in Brussels, Adina Valyan noted that according to the latest European infrastructure maps, recently adopted, Giurgiu-Ruse 2 should be a road and railway bridge.

“Furthermore, the Commission has invested hundreds of millions in the restoration of the Bucharest-Gyurghevo railway line. It is quite natural for this corridor to continue south, especially in the context of the new connectivity opportunities in the Aegean Sea from Greece, Bulgaria, that is, along the North-South Corridor, on which Romania is currently located. The North-South Corridor – from the Baltic Sea to the Aegean Sea, with a connection to the Black Sea. So it is very important that this bridge meets the standards and the Commission is fully prepared to invest in it,” said the European Commissioner for Transport.

As a second important project related to the Danube, she outlined the “Fast Danube”, which envisages the improvement of shipping.

“In the context of the corridors of solidarity with Ukraine, the transport of goods on the Danube from the Danube ports east along the Danube upstream to Central Europe and other ports, Italian or Croatian – this is extremely important,” explained Adina Valyan. According to her, the context is favorable and the project will receive the support of the EC, BTA reports.
