With 124 votes “for”, 52 “against” and 8 abstentions, the parliament voted in the first reading on changes to the Law on Political and Civil Rehabilitation of Repressed Persons, which provides for a 50% increase in the pension supplement and the creation of a new legal framework in the Social Security Code, where there will already be a pension for repression.
“The representatives of the Green Movement in the PP-DB will support the proposal made, which we understand in its two parts – the supplement to the pension becomes a pension, so as to overcome the problem of lack of experience and to use this pension when reaching years of age , even if this seniority is not available. The amendments to the Social Security Code, giving the opportunity to buy 3 years from the repressed, are not enough to fulfill this condition. And the other part is to raise the level of this supplement from 50% the average pension in the army is now being doubled to bring it up to the current standard of living. I hope that in this way there will be justice for the people sent to camps and prisons, and we should do this so that there will be justice for the repressed.” said Daniela Bozhinova – PP-DB.
“At the end of the 49th NA, we could make a gesture that our sufferers deserve, who gave their lives for freedom and democracy. This is not populism. It is about 6,000 people. Every year on the dates related to honoring the memory of the victims of communism, I meet these people. They are not asking, they are not begging, they are just asking if we can update their pensions by 50% BGN 10 million for the next year. I think that these people deserve to be respected and I hope that we all support this bill, which will be a crown for this National Assembly on its last day,” said Rumen Hristov – SDS leader and MP from GERB-SDS, quoted by BNT.
“Where repressed persons who have become eligible for a pension to the pension pool are entitled to a supplement of 30 to 50% under current legislation. We propose that this supplement be increased by 50% as these supplements have not been updated for more than 20 years. We propose to create a new legal framework in the Social Security Code, where there will already be a pension for repression, since there are citizens who have not obtained the right to a pension or it is less than 100 citizens who are not had the necessary years and experience,” said Sevim Ali from the DPS.
“The proposed bill is being introduced for two reasons. To secure a little more votes for the upcoming elections and the second reason is because GERB-SDS want to support their coalition partner and they have been working in a coalition relationship for 10 years and 10 months, with little interruptions and with different crutches. This proposal is purely pre-election and we will not support it,” said Georgi Gerogiev – “Vazrazhdane”.
“It really looks quite political, what is being introduced. We from the BSP do not want to politicize it. We will make changes and proposals between the first and second reading, and do not be tempted to propose this bill for the second reading now. We believe that in large part the motives of the petitioners have a rather historical tone and should be considered much more carefully. I do not want to enter into a controversy, so as not to politicize the issue. Regardless of how many participants in the anti-fascist struggle are left, they are not recognized as participants in the Second World War. We are talking about justice here. Let us consider our proposals from this angle, since there are historical references”, said Borislav Gutsanov from “BSP for Bulgaria”.
