The cycling tour of Bulgaria can end this year with a final climb in Pamporovo.
The 71st edition of one of the oldest multi-stage races in Europe is due to take place from 24 to 29 August. If Pamporovo enters the route, it means that Smolyan will be among the stage cities.
For the moment, it is almost certain that the tour will begin (almost traditionally) with a prologue around the temple-monument “St. Alexander Nevsky” in Sofia, after which the first bearers of the leader’s shirts will be determined. It is very likely that the first stage will again be Sofia – Troyan, and the route will again include Burgas and Sliven.
They have expressed a desire to join the tour from Montana, and accordingly there is an option for the first stage to be in this city. The Bulgarian Cycling Federation will consider other possibilities.
A desire to start in Bulgaria has already been expressed by foreign teams, among which is Novo Nordisk. Because of the sponsor, only diabetic athletes usually ride in this team. However, Michal Shuran (Czech Republic) will not defend his title.
The first tour of Bulgaria took place in 1924 and the winners were two – Georgi Abadjiev and Kosta Dyulgerov.
On August 31 and September 1, almost all the cyclists from the tour will start in the race “In the footsteps of the Romans” for the “Dolcini” cup.
