They are pushing “Irrigation Systems” – Plovdiv to speedily clean the bed of the Stryama

“It is necessary to speed up the pace of the second stage of cleaning the bed of the Stryama river near the village of Trilistnik. I understand there were the rainy days, but I would like to see more progress.” This was stated by the regional governor of the Plovdiv region, Angel Stoev, at a meeting with the manager of “Irrigation Systems” – Maritsa branch, Eng. Kostadin Cholakov. He recalled that the first section of 700 meters was cleared and the banks strengthened in less than a month.

“The second section is also in a very bad condition, the riverbed is overgrown with trees and bushes. At this stage, two heavy machines are working there and they are quite sufficient, but in the coming weeks we may ask for help from the forestry in Klisura”, commented engineer Cholakov. He emphasized that their work is made difficult by the lack of equipment. With the same machines, riverbeds are cleaned, drainage channels are cleaned and dikes are strengthened. “In recent months, we have cleaned the drainage channels in the Maritsa municipality, which must be passable in case of high water along the Stryama river. According to preliminary estimates, it will take another two months for the final cleaning of Stryama near the village of Trilistnik to be completed.

Preventive cleaning began in March, initially with only equipment and workers from “Irrigation Systems”. In April, they were joined by teams from the forestry holdings with specialized machines for clearing the shrubby vegetation and trees.
