An illegal quarry for the extraction of aggregates was discovered in the area of the village of Tsegrilovtsi in Trna.
The inspection was carried out by the Regional Environmental Inspectorate in Sofia, after a municipal councilor from Trun filed a report, BNT informs.
He claims that the quarry is not only being used illegally, but that the excavated rock mass has already been laid as a foundation for the new road that is currently being built. The company involved in the road repairs denies these accusations.
The quarry is large and visible from afar. During the report, the team arrived at the site just in time for the asphalting of the road to the villages of Strezimirovtsi and Tsegrilovtsi. A booth and an excavator were found in the quarry itself.
Town councilors from Trun managed to film an excavator filling a truck with stones. The truck looks like one of those hired by the road repair company.
After recording the evidence of illegal mining, the advisors send the report to all competent institutions. On August 27, RIOS Sofia carried out an on-site inspection and found that the quarry was completely illegal.
According to the contract with the municipality of Trun, the contractor company “European Roads” must use rock mass from legal quarries in the municipality of Blagoevgrad.
However, the company denies using material from the illegal quarry, claiming the site was used as a warehouse. They also stress that they have no connection to the alleged illegal mining of aggregates.
The Ministry of Energy also carried out an inspection and found traces of rock mass mining, but during the inspection the equipment was not working. A similar situation was also found on the way to another village of Trna – Ezdimirtsi, where an illegal quarry with deployed equipment was also discovered.
