Lena Borislavova from the PP-DB is summoned to the prosecutor’s office on Monday to testify in a case for disclosing classified information. This was confirmed by sources from the state prosecution. The deputy had a summons for Friday, but she asked for the postponement under the pretext that it was a parliamentary day.
The pre-trial proceedings are being conducted because of a leaked document marked “secret” related to Turk Stream at the time when Borislavova was the head of Prime Minister Kiril Petkov’s office. The chairman of DANS, Plamen Tonchev, hinted at this investigation in front of the parliament, while he was being heard in connection with the infamous recordings from the party meeting of the PP, distributed by Radostin Vassilev, who then left the party, which was his next port of call after ITN.
During the hearing on May 30, 2023, Hamid Hamid from the DPS, unrelated to the main topic, asked Tonchev what actions DANS was taking “to prevent the leakage of classified information to the mass media – either internally by the service, or by the persons who by force of law are obliged to work with classified information”. Tonchev replied that in the two years since he headed the agency, two cases were established in which DANS documents or state documents were disclosed to external sources. In one case, a case of espionage is pending against a former DANS employee. “The second case – it is currently being investigated by the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office, this is an excerpt from our document labeled “Secret”, which was published on an Internet site,” Tonchev pointed out. He did not specify that it was the document related to TurkStream. But he added that there is “no information that charges have been filed, but in fact we have established that two people outside the agency had access to this document.”
The witness, who allegedly gave the document to Borislavova to take a picture of it with his phone, and then took it away, denies that this happened, “Sega” writes. However, the prosecution also had other evidence.
At least 2 more investigations are connected to Lena Borislavova, according to which it is not clear what is happening. Both were formed a long time ago. One is investigating the legal aid contract signed by the Bulgarian Development Bank with the law firm where Borislavova worked. The investigation began in June 2022. The other is a document crime case related to the release of Kiril Petkov as a member of the Board of Directors of the “Let’s Protect Coral” Association. This investigation was launched a year ago.
