British authorities have arrested more than 1,000 people after the riots, which included violence, arson and looting, as well as racially motivated attacks on Muslims and migrants, Reuters reported, citing a police statement in Britain.

The unrest that followed the killing of three girls in the northern English town of Southport began after the July 29 attack, which was wrongly blamed on a Muslim migrant based on misinformation spread online.

Violence has erupted in many cities across England as well as Northern Ireland, but clashes with law enforcement are now fewer than last week as police efforts to identify those involved gained momentum.

Many of those involved in the violence were quickly jailed, with some receiving long sentences. According to the police report, 1,024 people were arrested across the UK, of which 575 people were charged.

Among those arrested was a 69-year-old man accused of vandalism in the city of Liverpool, as well as an 11-year-old boy in Belfast. According to the prosecutor’s office, a 13-year-old girl pleaded guilty to punching and kicking the front door of a dormitory for migrants on July 31, BTA writes.
