In a symbolic way, students from schools in Ioannina, who were found in the morning on the pedestrian street of Michael Angelos, sent the message “Let’s break the silence, unite our voices against violence”.
On the occasion of the Panhellenic day against school violence and bullying, as March 6 has been set, the Network of School Mediation Schools of the Kindergarten Pedagogy Department of the University of Ioannina organized a panhellenic action in collaboration with 520 schools of all levels (150 Kindergartens, 185 Primary Schools , 112 Gymnasiums and 73 High Schools) from all over the country and one from Imbro, under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Religion, the Municipality of Ioannita and other Municipalities.
More than 25,000 students and over 1,000 teachers arrived from their schools in central parts of the cities, wearing masks depicting feelings of violence and intimidation, while representing forms of violence with some movements. At 11 a.m. the students simultaneously burst from a balloon, an action that symbolizes the breaking of silence and the simultaneous breaking that we join voices.
“The purpose of the action is to create a culture of reporting/complaining incidents of violence and not to silence them”, emphasized the professor of the University of Ioannina, Theodoros Thanos, who had the initiative of the nationwide action, which aimed to raise awareness primarily of the students, but also of the local communities in reporting violence phenomena not only in the school area but also in other institutional contexts such as the family, sports, work, etc.
The dean of the School of Educational Sciences of the University of Ioannina, Jenny Paghe, spoke about an emblematic action, which brings the University closer to the city, in her statements, while the need to spread the message to the whole society was sent by the Deputy Mayor of Education Stefanos Sintos, committing that the Municipality will also take initiatives with events and actions to raise public awareness.
