President Nayib Bukele dismissed Juan Pablo Durán Escobar in March of last year, as a result of an internal investigation carried out at BANDESAL, which was handed over to the FGR and which has led to the arrest of this former official who served.

San Salvador. The Attorney General’s Office of the Republic announced that this Saturday night, September 30, the former president of the Development Bank of El Salvador (Bandesal), Juan Pablo Durán Escobar, has been arrested at the International Airport of El Salvador.
The former official is accused of the crimes of Arbitrary Acts and Improper Bribery, which he would have committed when he was the president of said bank, according to tax sources.
President Nayib Bukele has reacted to this action by the FGR by pointing out that as he said in his Message to the Nation on June 1, “we are going to fight against corruption, wherever it comes from” and recalled that in March of Last year, he dismissed Juan Pablo Durán Escobar as a result of an internal investigation carried out at BANDESAL.
“Instead of shelving it (the investigation) as they did before, we handed it over to the Attorney General’s Office so that they could deduce responsibilities,” added the president. He has also taken advantage of the moment to tell the Salvadoran people that “we reiterate our commitment to 0 (zero) impunity” and that, “whoever has touched or touches the money of the Salvadoran people, jail awaits him… And if you touched the people’s money , and you have not been arrested yet, sit down and wait your turn.”
