Three bandits were detained while re-stitching the frame of a brand new Jeep “Range Rover”, picked up by a German in Sofia, and preparing to take it abroad. They were arrested during a joint action of the SDVR and the Border Police on August 26.
The foreigner reported to the SDVR that on August 20 he went to pick up a car manufactured in 2024 from the underground parking lot where he had left it. Criminalists from the SDVR quickly found out exactly when the theft took place. While they were working, border guards on an operational road found out where the car was already on August 25.
It turned out that Tuzar’s jeep was hidden in a garage in Krastova Vada district. During the joint action of the two main directorates in the Ministry of the Interior, three bandits were caught on the spot, who had already put new numbers on the car and erased the frame. Detained were 53-year-old Georgi Katsarov-Gogata, known to the Ministry of Internal Affairs along with other stolen and hidden cars, as well as for beatings, Ivaylo Stefanov, caught for theft, and Denis Berov, who was arrested drunk behind the wheel.
The garage contained car jeep mufflers, a car lock trainer, key blanks and keys for various vehicle brands, and other gadgets including tools, sim cards, laptops, etc.
The cheapest such jeep, produced this year, is sold used for BGN 267,000 without VAT on the Internet. It is 3000 kilometers away, it is clear from the ad. It is not clear how much the three wanted to sell the car for. According to forensic experts, it is unlikely that they planned to make it a duplicate of another similar car, because it is complicated. You must first have seen a car of the same model, make and year and noted its license plate number. After that, a familiar police officer must check you in the system and tell you his frame number, so you can create a fake one and repaint the car in the same color. Then you can try to sell it in Bulgaria, but the risk of being caught is much greater than taking it across the border.
The three are accused of concealing the jeep and placing a false license plate and are in custody for up to 72 hours on charges of the Sofia District Prosecutor’s Office. So far, the men have not given an explanation.
