At a meeting of the Municipal Council in Ihtiman, it was voted that the newly built sports hall in the city should be named after the volleyball legend Dimitar Zlatanov. This was announced after the meeting of the council for BTA from the Municipality. Zlatanov is a native of Ikhtiman.

75-year-old Zlatanov is the only Bulgarian in the Volleyball Hall of Fame in Holyoke, Massachusetts (USA), No. 1 forward in the world for 1970. Married to Maria Vasileva.
