Authorities reported this Sunday, September 3 from the closure of the vehicular passage in Lourdes boulevard to 26 street of zone 5 of the capital.

Amílcar Montejo, Mayor of Transit of the capital’s municipality, explained to Free Press y Guatevisión Newscast that the decision was made due to the damage to the road as a result of the rains and the risk that this represents for drivers.

Montejo explained that since last August 12 there have been very heavy rains in that sector, which increased the flow of the Negro River, which crosses said boulevard, which caused the settlement in that sector.

However, the mitigation works have not advanced due to the amount of water from the tributary and to the conditions of the place, which represent a serious risk for the workers.

As a result of this, the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred) declared an institutional red alert, and the capital city hall, a municipal red alert.

“In this section there is an erosion which work will be done in several phases according to the established protocols”, explained Montejo, who added that there is no estimate of how long the work will last and that a lot will depend on the weather conditions for the next few days.

The traffic mayor explained that, as a primary measurel, it is prohibited from now on the passage through the place of heavy transport and cargo.

Calle 27, which goes from zone 5 to the Cuatro Caminos bridge, zone 16, will work as a double track. There will be a permanent reversible lane until further notice, explained the official, who added that at least 50,000 vehicles.

He explained that the repair of the section is planned in two stages: The first will be to reinforce the slope and protect it to prevent its subsidence. The second is focused on the repair of the pipe in the place, but that phase is paralyzed, due to the large amount of water that is running due to the heavy rains of the last hours.

Currently, the Conred is conducting site assessments with special equipment, as sensors, to determine the extent of damage to the road and the actions to be taken.

Montejo gave directions to the drivers who regularly use that road. Users from zones 17, 18, 24, 25, as well as those from San José del Golfo, Palencia, among others, they must continue using the route to the Atlantic towards the San Antonio neighborhood or the José Milla y Vidaurre road, but avoid entering the La Paz road.

Meanwhile, drivers from Santa Rosita, Sábana Arriba, Kanajuyú and other towns in zone 16, You can use Austrian Boulevard and Vista Hermosa, but avoid the road to zone 5.

Montejo recommended, mainly for school buses, to travel along La Asunción boulevard or the road to Campo Marte and Vista Hermosa boulevard not to use the La Paz road.

Regarding the weather, the Insivumeh indicated this Sunday in its bulletins that the rains will continue in the country due to at least two easterly waves that are closely monitored.
