This is an unprecedented event and with which our country plans to face one of the biggest health problems of today.

Antimicrobial resistance in Mexico

Before this panorama, bioMérieux consolidated an alliance with the hospital group Christus Muguerza In this way, the Alta Especialidad Hospital becomes the first institution in Mexico to be a Center of Excellence for the management of antimicrobial resistance. The objective is to generate evidence on the potential impact regarding the medical value and the financial impact of laboratory solutions for the diagnosis of infectious diseases.

In order to avoid the so-called “post-antibiotic era”, the feared moment in which medications will no longer work against infections, it is necessary to expand intervention strategies combining prevention with a proactive approach to the identification and treatment of resistant pathogens. .

A pioneering hospital space in Mexico

The space is named Center of Excellence in Antimicrobial Stewardship (CoE – Center of Excellence). This is the 13th number that bioMérieux has in the world, although it is the first in Mexico. One of the goals is to accelerate the impact of the diagnostic strategy in the fight against antimicrobial resistance and achieve an improvement in clinical outcomes.

“Today, in fact, it is no longer enough to just prevent, but it is necessary to act proactively to quickly detect resistant pathogens, making use of innovative and cutting-edge diagnostic strategies to quickly identify drugs capable of defeating them,” he said. Activities to be carried out by the first hospital against antimicrobial resistance in Mexico

The alliance with bioMérieux provides for the organization of educational initiatives and the creation of real research projects.

Several training events will be organized for multiple professionals in the health sector in Mexico, from microbiologists to clinicians, with the aim of disseminating a precise diagnostic approach for the conscious use of antibiotics, a fundamental key in the fight against antimicrobial resistance.

At the same time, the launch of clinical studies is planned that will allow the evaluation of the implementation of new tools and new diagnostic-therapeutic flows to improve the management of patients with multidrug-resistant infections.
