The Center for Studies for an Alternative National Project (Cepna) and the Citizen Observatory asked the National Electoral Institute (INE) interpret the Constitution and leave to Morena with a limit of 300 deputies in the integration of the next Legislature.

Among the members of the NGOs, the following stand out: Jorge Alcocer and Morelos Cansecowho met with eight electoral advisers this Tuesday, to present their arguments and ask the Institute to avoid an overrepresentation of Morena, PT and PVEM.

After their meeting, Alcocer pointed out that they explained that, although Article 54 of the Constitution states that the maximum overrepresentation of 8% is only for parties, it must be given a harmonious interpretation and also applied to coalitions, with which Morena and allies would not reach more than 300 deputies in the next Legislature.

He said that the councillors are still analysing the situation and that there is still no projection of the complete composition of the next Legislature.

For his part, Morelos Canseco said that Article 54 states that parties must register at least 200 deputy formulas to have the right to plurinominal allocations, and the Morena coalition registered 260, so he said that the rule is interpreted there and it is understood that it also applies to coalitions.

In addition to this, the National Civic Front announced that next Sunday, August 11, he will hold a march to the central offices of the INE, to protest against the legislative overrepresentation of the coalition Let’s Keep Making History.

Macario Schettino, member of the movement, said that the last elections were a state election.

“It is an opinion of the specialized Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch. An election in which the President intervened illegally.” He explained that the objective is to demand respect for the constitutional spirit and fairness in the election.

¿New game?

The National Civic Front, made up of social organizations, academics and former legislators, announced that it will hold forums to decide whether it will become a new political party. Macario Shettino stressed that the movement has no intention of supporting former members of other political forces and called on citizens to participate in a discussion on what this political force should be like.
