Tijuana BC.- The director of the Binational Center for Human Rights AC., denounced that the agents of the National Guard and National Migration Institute (INM) and the military continue to mistreat and extort migrants who circulate in Mexican territory on a regular and irregular basis.

Víctor Clark Alfaro explained that on November 10 of this year, a group of Colombians who were traveling in a passenger truck as tourists was attacked on the way from Sonora to Mexicali, despite having legal permits to travel in the country.

He commented that this type of attacks has worsened so far in this six-year term of the President’s federal administration. Andrés Manuel López Obradorwhich threaten the safety of foreigners.

They fear retaliation

Clark Alfaro regretted that the victims do not dare to report to the authorities, since they fear reprisals or that their complaint will be dismissed because they are foreigners.

“The migratory routes have become a route of opportunities to jointly obtain large economic resources and extort migrants, who we all know are unlikely to report due to their condition, some perhaps undocumented, others perhaps with an exit letter through Mexico.”

The director declared.

One of the victims of the revealed incident is Mr. ‘Jorge’, originally from Colombia but a resident of Mexico, from whom alleged agents stole more than 12 thousand pesos at different checkpoints in Sonora en route to Mexicali.

Penniless

Likewise, he said other alleged agents beat him for not receiving money because he was left penniless.

“I feel anguish. I feel uncertainty, fear more than anything for my life and that of my family members. I am very afraid,” he expressed.

He stated that he tried to file the complaint to the prosecutor’s officebut he feared that the process would be slow and in danger during this process.
