Kottayam: A search was conducted in Parakulam for a couple who went missing in 2017 from Arupara. The search is being conducted at Parakkulam near Nattakam Mariapally by the crime branch team. Four years after the couple went missing, the crime branch has intensified its investigation.

Hashim (42) and his wife Habiba (37) went missing under mysterious circumstances on April 6, 2017, on a hartal day. The couple left home saying they could buy food from Kottayam. The trip was in an unregistered car bought days ago. But they did not return. No one saw that new car either.

They left without taking their mobile phone, purse or passport. The next day, Hashim’s father Abdul Qadir lodged a complaint with the Kumarakom police stating that he could not find his son and daughter – in – law. The first attempt of the police was to collect CCTV footage and find their way.

Based on this, CCTV cameras will be installed in and around Kottayam city. The cameras checked but found no rust. Meanwhile, Abdul Khader lodged a complaint with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The investigation was then taken over by the Crime Branch. A new 40-member team was also deployed.

The probe has been extended to Kottayam and Idukki districts. The couple searched places and water bodies with scanners and searched for couples in various religious centers and cities in Tamil Nadu. Local police and crime branch visited pilgrim centers including Ajmer. However, no information about the couple was received.
