A luxury hotel in Paris has publicly apologized to tennis legend Serena Williams after the American complained on social media that she was not allowed into its restaurant on Monday, reports the Reuters agency.

“I have been denied access to dine on the terrace of an empty restaurant and in nicer places, but never with my children. There is a first time for everything,” wrote the 42-year-old former athlete.

The four-time Olympic gold medalist participated in the opening ceremony of the games in the French capital and was part of the relay with the Olympic flame. Like many celebrities, she supported American gymnast Simone Biles from the stands.

Williams’ post was seen by 4 million people.

The restaurant issued an official apology to Serena Williams and explained the reason for the incident.

“Mrs Williams, please accept our sincerest apologies for the disappointment you felt last night. Unfortunately our rooftop bar was fully booked. We would be honored to welcome you again. You are always welcome,” said the prestigious place.

The post of Serena Williams on social networks gathered different reactions. Some commenters supported her, but others criticized the behavior of celebrities in such situations.

The former number 1 in the world tennis rankings will be far more positive after the ceremony that kicked off the Olympic Games.

“Do you have an unforgettable moment? Truly unforgettable. From being in the opening ceremony to riding a boat in the rain. It was raining so hard my eyelashes fell off. It was unforgettable,” she wrote on Platform X after the games began .
