The discovery was made on a property in Reynosa, a city on the border with the United States where the group has been working since Friday, July 14.

“Exactly 11 graves have been found in this time and it is estimated that there may be 22 bodies,” told the chain Millennium Jorge Cuéllar, spokesman for security issues for the government of Tamaulipas.

Cuéllar added that the local prosecutor’s office is in charge of the investigations and that a final balance of the number of bodies found will be reported later.

He explained that most of the bones are between 10 and 14 months old buried in the area.

Motivated by desperation and the lack of results in the investigations, relatives of the disappeared look for their loved ones on their own, usually in inhospitable parts of the country where they go with picks and shovels.

With about 13 thousand records, Tamaulipas is the second state in Mexico with the highest number of missing persons after Jalisco, which totals 14,987 cases.

In total, Mexico has 110,000 cases of missing persons from 1962 to date, a “human tragedy” according to the United Nations.
