Abandoned Mine in Switzerland Filled with Vintage Volkswagens
In Switzerland, an abandoned mine has been discovered to be a treasure trove of classic Volkswagen cars.
A group of urban explorers, who regularly delve into deserted ghost towns, World War II bunkers, and abandoned prisons, documented their latest adventure in the Swiss mountains. Led by author Bob Thiessen, the explorers finally stumbled upon their reward - the first Volkswagen emerging from the darkness. It turned out the mine was filled with vintage Volkswagens.
The explorers discovered five different Beetle models, as well as the Golf MK1 and MK2, Polo, and even a Passat. While some cars were merely covered in dust and rust, others were completely unusable, leaving only their rusted shells.
The origin of the cars remains a mystery, but it’s clear they haven’t been in the mine for long, as one still had a 2018 registration sticker. Some journalists suggest the cars belong to the Strange Volkswagen Museum in Switzerland, known as the “Musee Volkswrecks” – a museum filled with crashed cars.
The museum’s collection of wrecked Volkswagens might be too rusty for display, or perhaps these hidden cars are being saved for future projects.
