In the Museum and Archives we didn’t have the set of original postcards from the park. The checkbooks were like one souvenir that was sold at the entrance to the park for 1 peseta, which was destined for the asylum two years ago, explains the director of the Library, Municipal Archive of Betanzos and the Museum das Marias, Andrés Arcay, who assures that, in his case, there had never been seen some originals although emigrant associations bought a large number for their beneficial nature.
Regarding the age of these checkbooks, he states that they are from when the park was active. Two years 10 or 20, he comments. Juan García Naveira died in 1933 and believes that the images are from earlier, because the park can be seen unfinished.
The journey of the two donated scripts is unique. Mara Dopico, who delivered them this week, explains that her family, known as Os Chechos, proposed carrying out activities this Christmas and decided to take a guided tour of O Pasatempo. It was with her aunt, Berta Dopico, who after taking the tour, where the existence of the postcards was mentioned, indicated that she thought she had something similar in her house. I searched and discovered that they were two originals. The albums were given to this family by a friend of Mara’s uncle before the pandemic, who received them from a friend who, in turn, obtained them after helping a woman in the fire at his house. Berta gave them to her niece, understanding that, as a fan of the theme park created by the García Naveira family, she would put them to better use. Each album contains 10 images, which are separated by greaseproof paper to protect them, and perforated at one end to make it easy to remove them from the pad.

The Association of Friends of Pasatempo explains, in their blog in which they analyze the postcards, that they are a very important documentation with which any investigation intended to be done on the park begins. They show us what different corners of the park were like originally, some even missing today, making their value even greater. In addition, the names given to these places at the time appear, another interesting fact from which to extract information, the entity points out. Likewise, he points out that the first citation of these images in the press is from 1915 and specifies that the albums have dimensions of 15.3 x 8.7 centimeters. Some images in the reprints were treated for some retouching.
