An altar dedicated to the figure of the devil was placed on Canal de Churubusco avenue very close to Canal de Tezontle, a situation that raised alarm among residents of the area who feared that it could be linked to some organized crime group.
In a video circulating on social networks, a group of people can be seen setting up the showcase-type altar in which they placed some representative statues of Satan and Santa Muerte surrounded by pots with roses and sunflowers; as well as an arch of red and black balloons.

According to the video, the assembly of the altar took place during the night and was accompanied by a music band, who played until it was installed.

The neighbors made complaints to the Iztacalco mayor’s office, since the altar was placed on one of the medians of the avenue and apparently it was made without permission from the district authorities.
Subsequently, the Iztacalco mayor’s office reported through its social networks that after the complaints, members of its staff went to Canal de Río Churubusco and Puente de Curtidores to mediate with those who placed the altar without permission on the median and remove it.

For its removal, the mayor’s office thanked the neighbors for their understanding and the support of the Secretary of Citizen Security (SSC).
The mayor’s office reaffirmed its respect for all religions and/or beliefs; However, he reminded the neighbors that public spaces are for the enjoyment of all residents.
