The war that has been waged in Ukraine for nearly three months has had an important echo on the Internet. In conversation with the American media ‘The Wired’, one of the ‘hackers’ behind the page, on which he has been working since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine, states that “this war began in Moscow and Saint Petersburg, within Putin’s circle of power, and that is the one we want to annoy and annoy.” Specifically, the site claims that it stores “the phone numbers of thousands of Russian Duma employees, War and Economy Ministry employees, mid-level administrators, and high-ranking politicians” from data leaks. The page also has a section in which it asks Internet users to share more phone numbers with them to expand their database.
It should be remembered that, since the beginning of the war, groups of ‘hackers’ related to the Government of Ukraine, as well as members of the heterogeneous Anonymous, have managed to access a large amount of information on Russian state employees among other personalities of the country governed by Putin . Visitors to the website and using this service will not speak directly to the Russian officials on the other end of the phone. Once the user initiates a call, the service randomly dials 40 of the stored numbers. This is not the first time that ‘hacktivists’ have launched a platform aimed at contacting Russian users through phone calls. In the first days of the invasion, another group of hackers launched a platform that, like this one, stores thousands of phone numbers, as well as emails, of people living in the country ruled by Putin. The site is called Squad 303 and its objective is very different from that of Waste Russian Time. In this case, what is wanted is that people from all over the world come into contact with Russian citizens to inform them about what is happening in Ukraine breaking with the censorship imposed by the Kremlin.
