The Court of Appeal in Varna confirmed the measure of remand “in custody” of a person accused of participating in an organized criminal group, the press service of the court announced.
Charges have been brought against him for fraud and extortion during renovations in different parts of the country, and for belonging to an organized criminal group. According to the prosecutor’s office, the frauds were committed after prior collusion, on a large scale and as ongoing crimes.
The group operated from September 2019 to May this year in Varna, Plovdiv and Sevlievo, as well as in the villages of Chernevo, Oreshak, General Kantarjievo. Its participants promised to repair roofs, fences and parts of real estate. They agreed on certain amounts, but subsequently changed the terms, asking for more. In other cases, they forced the victims through threats.
The decision of the court is final.
On May 15, the prosecutor’s office in Varna announced that an investigation was being conducted into construction frauds carried out on the territory of Varna and other regions of the country.
A day later, at the request of the District Prosecutor’s Office in the city, the court left the four defendants in custody.
