The fire between the villages of Banya and Oborishte in Panagyur and the city of Panagyurishte was completely contained late last night.

Teams from all fire departments in the district, forest officials and volunteers participated in controlling the fire. Heavy equipment from “Asarel – Medet” was involved in the extinguishing.

Teams remained on duty throughout the night.

The fire, which destroyed more than 2,000 acres of coniferous forest and wheat fields, was caused by a combine that caught fire.

The fire remained under observation throughout the night, said the mayor of Panagyurishte, Zhelyazko Gagov. “We had organized teams on duty, which are still patrolling and in the field. Special thanks to everyone who made a lot of effort to ensure the security of the populated areas. Very good, cohesive organization between all the teams, and we even managed to provide food for the people on the ground,” he explained.

Local outbreaks will be extinguished today, BNR writes.

“The two volunteers with sprinklers and fire extinguishers and our forces and means. Let’s hope that we will finish,” said the head of the Pazardzhik fire service, ch. Inspector Boris Stoinov.

Police are expected today to give more details about the pre-trial proceedings for causing an accidental fire.
