In a tribute to the purity and vitality of aguaNueva Narrativa Guate has shared on its social networks a collection of images that capture the essence of a tradition deeply rooted in the village of San Pedro Las Huertas, Antigua Guatemala, and that merged with conservation with the development of a Easter rug inspired by the serene and vibrant tones of this natural resource.
This work was carried out on March 24, Palm Sunday, during a carpet workshop. It would receive the procession of Jesus Nazarene of the Flagellation and the Virgin of Sorrows of the Temple of San Pedro las Huertas.
Being a tribute to water, the carpet exhibited light blue and blue hues that evoked the depth of the oceans and the serenity of clear skies. With meticulous craftsmanship, the creators captured the characteristic patterns of these works.
A work that calls for conserving water
In a message of gratitude and reflection, the Nueva Narrativa Guate movement highlighted the invaluable contribution of the López family and their tireless work to strengthen the cultural legacy. Likewise, he stressed the importance of protecting and preserving the vital resource of water:
“In San Pedro Las Huertas we learned to make rugs, in this activity we were inspired by the colors of water,” the movement expressed in its publication. “Thanks to the López family, a family dedicated to strengthening the traditions and customs of the Antigueños through the delivery of learn-by-doing workshops.”
The call to environmental awareness resonated in every word: «Water is a blessing that the sky sends us in the form of rain, it fills our rivers, lakes and aquifers to hydrate and give life to everything on earth. What water can we use if it is contaminated […]?».
The images of this rug, made with devotion and with an ecological message, not only capture the ephemeral beauty of an ancestral tradition, but also invite us to reflect on our bond with the environment and the importance of protecting natural resources for the coming generations.
