Farmers in Pazardzhik should go to work with filled tanks or other suitable containers with water, with a capacity of at least 200 l, to be used both by them in the event of a fire, and by the teams of the regional “Fire Safety” services and protection of the population”. This is the order of the regional governor of Pazardzhik Valentina Kaitazova for additional measures in connection with the fire season.
Due to the high risk of fires, the order stipulates that until the end of August 2024 activities in the agricultural territories (cleaning of pastures, meadows, reclamation activities, cleaning of grassy areas, mechanized mowing of lawns) will be suspended, with the exception of the activities of the harvest campaign, tillage, hay and straw baling and the plowing of territories. Until the end of August 2024, the baling of hay and straw on the territory of the district will be carried out between 20:00 on the current day and 08:00 on the following day.
Mobile teams will monitor compliance with the bans. Today’s working meeting with the regional governor was attended by managers and representatives of RDPBZN, ODMVR, Regional Directorate “Agriculture”, RDG Pazardzhik and state fund “Agriculture” Pazardzhik region.
“We need to take further action and join forces to reduce the risk of new fires starting. We are witnessing an irresponsible attitude on the part of the citizens and non-observance of the ordered measures in the fire season,” said regional governor Valentina Kaitazova and called for strict punishments for violators.
According to the data of RDPBZN Pazardzhik, from the beginning of July until now, there were 43 fires with material losses, for the same period last year they were 19. There were 121 fires without material losses for the specified period, compared to 67 for 2023. The total number of fires in the Pazardzhik region from the beginning of July until now is 164, compared to 86 for the same period last year. There is a double increase in fires for 2024 compared to 2023.
The mayors of municipalities and the Regional Road Administration suspend until the end of August 2024 the activities of cleaning ditches, mechanized mowing of road banks from the republican and municipal road networks, replacement of restriction systems on the roads in the territory of the district, welding activities , fire works and the use of open fire sources.
Under the leadership of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Pazardzhik, to create mobile teams, with the participation of representatives from the “Fire Safety and Protection of the Population” services in places, the Regional Directorate of “Agriculture” and the Regional Directorate of Forestry – Pazardzhik, to carry out strict control on the serviceability of agricultural and forestry equipment and its provision with fire extinguishing means. When violations are found, to draw up acts for administrative violations.
The mayors of municipalities have been assigned to hold meetings again with the mayors of settlements and town halls regarding taking measures to prevent fires and to inform the local population about their obligations and the measures to protect agricultural and forest territories, by creating an organization for the participation of the population and the voluntary formations created in the sense of the Disaster Protection Act for extinguishing fires in forest territories and agricultural lands.
The mayors of settlements in the event of a declared high risk of fires, high temperatures, strong wind and risk of rapidly developing fires in the territory of Pazardzhik district, to promptly inform the local population, farmers and workers, shepherds, beekeepers, visitors and those working in the forest areas and adjacent to them.
The mobile teams will submit weekly reports to the regional governor on their activities.
