by time news

The Supreme Court of Preparatory Investigation ordered 36 months of preventive detention against former President Pedro Castillo for allegedly leading a criminal organization.

The measure corresponds to the investigation against the former president for alleged acts of corruption in Petroperú and the ministries of Transportation and Housing.

The Prosecutor’s Office also requested preventive detention against Juan Silva and Geiner Alvarado, former Ministers of Transportation and Housing, respectively, during the government of Castillo Terrones.

They are attributed the alleged commission of different crimes, including criminal organization, influence peddling and collusion against the State.

The hearing is held virtually and is in charge of the Supreme Preparatory Investigation Judge Juan Carlos Checkley Soria.

During the hearing on March 7, the prosecutor Galinka Meza Salas invoked 283 serious and well-founded elements of conviction that link those investigated with the crimes they are accused of, statements by aspiring effective collaborators, witnesses, minutes, reports, and others.

Meanwhile, the lawyers for the defendants requested to declare the prosecutor’s request unfounded, because, presumably, the requirements established by the Code of Criminal Procedure to impose the measure are not met.

Former President Pedro Castillo is currently serving 18 months in preventive detention in the Barbadillo prison for the process that is being followed for the alleged crime of rebellion.

Juan Silva and Geiner Alvarado

Judge Juan Carlos Checkley also ordered preventive detention for 36 months for the former Minister of Transportation Juan Silva Villegas, investigated for the alleged crime of criminal organization and others.

Likewise, the magistrate ordered his location and capture at the national and international level.

Meanwhile, he imposed the measure of appearance with restrictions for Geiner Alvarado with rules of conduct.

In this regard, the Prosecutor’s Office stated that it will appeal the resolution in the case of the former Minister of Housing.

In addition to the appearance, Judge Checkley ordered Alvarado to pay a bond of 35,000 soles within three days of the resolution being issued. The ex-minister’s defense expressed his agreement with the measure.
