CCOO has denounced a “trickle down of redundancies” in laboratories Hyperthe pharmaceutical company based in Amer, and demands the readmission of the workers. In a statement, the union explains that most of the terminations of contracts are in the productive area and maintains that they are “arbitrary” because the dismissals are not justified by the economic situation of the company. The trade union section of Hipra laboratories points out that during the first semester of the year there was one eighty casualties to the company for various reasons and that in the last week they have dismissed four workers, who had been with the company for an average of three years. In one of the cases, moreover, they report union persecution.

The trade union section states in a statement that the “trickle down of redundancies” mainly affect theproductive area, which is where the union has more strength. According to them, the company justifies the dismissals in a generic way, due to the alleged “lack of suitability of the profile to the needs of the Production Department”. CCOO, however, describes them as “arbitrary”: “They are not justifiedsince all the people affected have been with the company for an average of three years and have therefore far exceeded the probationary period of the respective employment contracts.”

The union also criticizes the fact that Hipra’s laboratory division is doing without workers, which “has been one of the companies, in Catalonia and in the State, that has received important subsidies for the development of its activity”. The company has developed a covid-19 vaccine. “These layoffs contravene the very objectives of this economic injection that the company has received,” says CCOO in the statement.

The union states that it “doesn’t make sense” that the company “is laying people off” when productive activity and economic results “are currently in constant and sustained growth” and the outlook for the future is that “this trend is maintained”.

For this reason, CCOO believes that behind these dismissals there is “one control situation” and also “of persecution” of the union activity carried out by his union section in the company.

CCOO demands from the management of ‘Laboratorios Hipra’ the readmission of the dismissed workers and urges the company to respect the development of the activity of the trade union section and its members.

“Exits and additions are a natural occurrence in any company”

The pharmaceutical company Hipra is surprised by the complaint made by CCOO and asserts that it is “a fet natural to any company, both in terms of departures and new additions”. In this sense, the company points out that they continue to “incorporate people” and that they feel “a key piece of creating valuable jobs”. “We are committed to the economic growth of the territory”, they insist. For their part, from CCOO Indústria they assure that the dismissals mainly affect the productive area, which is where the union has the most strength, and that they are “arbitrary”.
