They search the home of the Minister of Energy of Ecuador, investigated for alleged corruption

The Ecuadorian Prosecutor’s Office has carried out a raid against the home of the country’s Minister of Energy and Mines, Xavier Vera, who is being investigated for the alleged commission of a bribery crime.

The raid is part of a series of similar measures requested by prosecutors against a series of properties located in the cities of Guayaquil and Quito, among which is also an office of the Ministry of Energy, as reported by the entity.

The Prosecutor’s Office has specified that several mobile phones, a computer and a series of documents have been seized. “Everything will be entered in chain of custody in the framework of the investigation for an alleged crime of bribery,” the agency has indicated.

The investigation derives from a series of documents and audios delivered by the journalist Anderson Boscán, which suggest that Vera would have accepted bribes in exchange for facilitating access to positions in the public sector.

These files include a recording in which a third person is allegedly heard offering Boscán money in exchange for “leaving alone” the Ecuadorian minister, who has rejected the accusations made against him.

“Everything is a montage that seeks to harm me, to affect my honor and good name,” he assured in a message posted on Twitter. His words come after the deputies announced on Thursday the opening of a process to submit him to a political trial in the National Assembly.
