The Cuban community in the United States came together to repatriate the remains of Yoandris, a young Cuban whose life was tragically ended in an act of violence.
It was Laura Garay who was in charge of asking for help through the GoFundMe platform, with the intention that the young man’s body be returned to the island and receive a final goodbye in her homeland.
“Please help us bring Yoandris home to his family.”implores Garay, who took the initiative to organize a fundraiser in the name of Omara Rodríguez, a mother grieving the loss of her only son.
The incident that triggered this tragedy occurred in the early hours of Friday, April 26, when Yoandris, on his way to work, was hit from behind by another vehicle.
When approaching the other driver to discuss the accident, the young Cuban was shot at point-blank range, an act that cost him his life.
“On Friday, April 26, in the early morning, when Yoandris was heading to his workplace, he was hit by another vehicle from the rear. At that moment, Yoandris approached the other car to coordinate details of the accident and was surprised with point-blank shots,” reads the text.

“Unfortunately, his life was taken too soon. “He was an excellent son, father, husband and friend, all of us who had the joy of knowing him regret this terrible tragedy,” the statement on GoFundMe continues.
The fundraising campaign is still active, and Yoandris’ family, along with his friends and acquaintances, hope to close this bitter chapter by saying goodbye to him in his homeland.
The family’s goal is $15,000 and, so far, they have raised almost $8,000.
