A woman was tricked by a group of criminals who posed as her grandchildren and asked her to withdraw money from the bank. She did so and when she was leaving, the suitcase in which she was carrying US$10,000 was stolen. The violent episode occurred in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Recoleta and so far the thief has not been arrested.

The dramatic assault occurred this Thursday, minutes before 3:00 p.m., a few meters from the Santander bank branch located in Alvear and Callao. According to what was reported by the investigators, the entire sequence began with a phone call.

A person posed as the victim’s grandson and asked him to withdraw money from his account to prevent it from being used to pay off the external debt. It was then that the woman approached the bank.

After withdrawing the US$10,000, she left the branch, located at the intersection of Alvear and Parera avenues, and was surprised. The entire scene was recorded by a security camera in the area.

In the images you can see how she walked with the suitcase in hand, until a white car stopped, put beacons on and reversed, pretending to park. After that, a thief came down from the back door, looked around her and walked across the street, in the direction of where her victim was.

The driver of the vehicle stayed in the hood, while his accomplice snatched the woman’s suitcase and dragged her for a few meters on the ground. After that, she ran to the car and sped away, investigators said.

The victim was left lying on the floor for a few seconds as a result of the sudden movement of the thief. The woman filed the complaint the next day at the 1st Neighborhood Police Station, but so far there is no information about the criminals and they are still on the run.

The National, Criminal and Misdemeanor Prosecutor’s Office Number 4, in charge of Dr. Dilello, intervenes in the case.
