The Russian Ekaterina Poistogova was deprived of the silver medal in the 800 meters at the Olympic Games in London in 2012 due to a violation of anti-doping rules, the Russian Athletics Federation announced.

“The period of the sanction is from March 28, 2024 to March 27, 2026, taking into account the two years of disqualification served by the athlete in accordance with the decision in the case of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). All her results achieved by July 17, 2012 to October 20, 2014, are cancelled,” the announcement said.

In February 2017, the CAS found Russian Maria Savinova guilty of using banned substances based on her biological passport and stripped the Russian of her gold medals at the 2012 Olympics in the 800m, the 2011 World Championships and European 2010. Therefore, Poistogova, who finished third, became a silver medalist in the 800 meters.

After a review of the results of the Olympic Games, the silver medal will go to the representative of Kenya, Pamela Jelimo, and the bronze – to the American Alicia Montano.

From 2021, Poistogova competes for the Turkish national team under the name Guliyev.
