In recent months, more and more Russian soldiers, especially the wounded, are committing suicide. And although Russian propaganda denies this trend, numerous videos from the front indicate the opposite. Of course, these images are being hidden in the Russian Federation in every possible way, but there are many videos circulating on the Internet of soldiers shooting themselves even after seemingly light wounds.

Military psychologist Andrey Kozinchuk explained to UNIAN journalists what this is connected with.

“Suicide never happens for one reason. It is always a combination of many factors. But the main reason is a person’s inability to cope with the situation,” Kozinchuk noted.

The psychologist stressed that Russian soldiers are faced with a discrepancy between what they were promised and what they saw and experienced at the front.

“When they are recruited, they use two approaches: promises and intimidation. They are promised big money, high positions, but they are also intimidated by the consequences of disobedience,” Kozinchuk explained.

At the front, they see that reality is far from what was promised. Fear becomes the main factor. Soldiers who are wounded or who have failed to complete their missions are afraid to return because of propaganda and threats.

“Some of these suicides are explained by the fact that they prefer to die and be written off as ‘combat losses’ so that their families can receive compensation,” Kozinchuk added.

Earlier, Stanislav Krasnov, a platoon commander of the 95th separate airborne assault brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, noted that Russian soldiers are so ideologically pumped up so that they do not surrender that this leads to frequent suicides. He said that in the Toretsk direction, the occupiers often do not take their wounded, leaving them lying on the battlefield for several days. According to Krasnov, the occupiers are told that they will be shot if they retreat. Soldiers who have received minor wounds understand that they will not be evacuated, and in order to avoid being captured, they commit suicide.
